Phone clocking benefits

Why employers use phone clocking.

Phone clocking gives employees a clock-in path when a browser clock-in or reliable job-site internet is not practical. It also gives managers details they can review before payroll.

Useful for job sites, shared phones, and low-connectivity work.

Landlines and cell phones

Employees can call in from the phone available at the job site or from a cell phone.

Low-connectivity job sites

A phone call can be easier than a browser clock-in when job-site internet is weak or unavailable.

No app required

Employees do not need to install an app or open a computer during the shift.

Review context

Calling number, voice check, and job code details help managers review phone entries before payroll.

How phone clocking works

For job sites with unreliable internet, employees can clock in from any landline or cell phone.

Call in

Employees clock in from a landline or cell phone.

The phone clock ID identifies the employee, and the PIN keeps the clock-in private to that person.

Landline or cell phoneNo app, computer, or job-site internet is required for the clock-in.
Phone clock IDClockspot assigns the ID automatically when the employee is set up.
Private PINEmployees can choose their own PIN from an emailed setup link.
Job codes by phoneAssign a phone code to any job so employees can enter it during the call.

Set up access

Admins manage phone clocking in one place.

From the Clockspot dashboard, admins can see who is ready, who has a setup link, and who still needs a PIN.

Bulk setup emailsSend setup links to employees who are not set up or whose links expired.
Manual PIN optionSet a PIN yourself when that is easier for the workplace.
Reset linksEmail a reset link without changing the current PIN until the employee uses it.
Access removalRemove a phone clock PIN when an employee should stop clocking in by phone.

Common questions

Questions about phone clock-ins.

  • Landline or cell phone
  • No app required
  • Voice checks recorded

Do employees need a smartphone?

No. If they can place a call from a landline or cell phone, they can use phone clocking. No app, computer, or job-site internet is required.

Does a phone call capture GPS?

No. Phone entries capture the calling number and a voice check. Clock-ins from an employee's own account can capture GPS, IP, device details, and geofence results.

Can employees choose their own PIN?

Yes. Admins can email setup links so employees choose their own PIN, or they can set a PIN manually.

Can phone clock-ins use job codes?

Yes. Admins can assign a phone code to any active job. During the call, employees enter the matching code, or press pound to skip when job selection is optional.
